First 70 MHz 2012

Activity on 70MHz remains high with 153 stations active from DL, G, GD, GM, GU, GW, LX, ON and PA. Eleven PA and two ON callsigns were active. Entry numbers were the same as in 2011. Although half of all the contacts took place in the first hour, the band remained busy throughout with 20% of contacts taking place in the last hour.

Conditions were rated as flat with deep QSB. The appearance of the PA stations together with the northerly GM4ZUK resulted in 11 contacts over 600kms. The best contact was between GM4ZUK/P and G4RFR at 687kms.

The weather was generally kind to the portable stations, though those at high altitudes commented on the cold temperatures.
