RSGB Contest Results Overall UKAC 2021
v4.158 by G4CLA

The UK Activity Contests continue to be the most popular events in the VHF RSGB calendar. 2020 was a record year for both the number of logs received and the number of QSOs made, which were 25% up on the previous year, mainly due to the many weeks of national lockdown. 2021 was close to that record being only a couple of percent down, with a total of just below 400,000 QSO in the logs.

In the Local Club Section, Hereford made it four years in a row at the top of the table with another outstanding performance, picking up the Bolton Wireless Club Trophy for their efforts. Three clubs were vying for second place this year, with only a few hundred points separating the Parallel Lines CG, Milton Keynes ARS and Trowbridge & DARC.  Although the Parallel Lines group were ahead from early on, a strong surge at the end of the year from the Milton Keynes group threatened to displace them, but in the end, they didn't quite manage to catch up and took third place with the Trowbridge club in fourth. Well done to all these three teams for excellent scores.

In 2017 the club league tables were split into two sections, 'Local Clubs', defined as clubs whose members all live or operate within 80km of the club's (virtual) meeting place and 'General Clubs' whose members are more widely dispersed. Since then, the 807 ARO group have dominated the General Clubs section, scoring the maximum 6,000 points for three out of those four years, an amazing accomplishment. During that time the Northern Fells CG have been slowly moving up the table, from 15th in 2017 to second in 2020, albeit still a long way behind the 807 group's score.  Could they move up one more place to displace 807 ARO, it seemed like a difficult ask, but from the start of 2021 it looked like they were up to the task. By the end of the year, not only have they taken overall first place but have secured first place in five of the six events, an outstanding achievement, for which they are awarded the UKAC Club Challenge Trophy.

A look at the Individual Scores table shows that Pete G4CLA and Keith G4ODA are stubbornly holding on to the top two places and Pete is once again awarded the G4DEZ award. Congratulations also to Tony G8DMU who is once again in third place, as well as the usual suspects making up the top ten positions. Also worthy of a mention is G4FZN/P operated by Pauline and Chris, who are the highest placed station that have entered only five of the six events and were the highest scoring station in the 144MHz UKAC. John G3XDY who is the highest placed station entering only four bands and is the joint highest scoring station on 23cms and Steve G1YBB who scored the maximum 1,000 points in the 50MHz and 70MHz events. The highest placed Intermediate Licensee is Darrell 2E0VCC who regularly gives many entrants the IO70 square bonus points. Matt 2E0MDJ is second this year and James 2E0OUT is in third spot. Donna M7DON is once again the highest placed Foundation Licensee, followed by Ben M7TXR who only gained his ticket in December 2020! In third is David M7ALE. The highest placed non-UK entry this year is Jacques F1BHL, who scored more than 950 points in each of the three bands he entered and is therefore also the highest placed station entering only three bands.

We have mode two improvements to the overall results tables this year, each club name is now a link, click this to see a breakdown of the contribution of each club member towards the total club score. Also, we have now added all the operators to the club certificates.

Thanks to everyone who put in an entry this year, even if you only entered one log, the more stations that are active the more fun these contests are for everyone. I would also like to thank the other adjudicators,Ian G0FCT, Quin G3WRR and John G3XDY for their efforts during the year.

Pete, G4CLA
