RSGB Contest Results VHF Championship 2021
v4.158 by G4CLA

The VHF Contests Championship aims to provide an overall result for the year - based on a representative selection of contests. The contests that count towards the Championship are: March 2m/70cm (the overall 2 band normalised score), 432 MHz Trophy, 10GHz Trophy, May 144 MHz, 50 MHz Trophy, 144 MHz Low Power, 432 MHz Low Power, 144 MHz Trophy, 70 MHz Trophy, 1.3 GHz Trophy & 2.3 GHz Trophy.

All stations entering these 11 events are automatically included in the Championship. There is a Single Operator Fixed Station section (SF), a Single Operator Fixed Low Power section [less than 25W to a single antenna] (LP) and Open section [Groups and Portables] (O) and an AFS section which accumulates all the scores of individual club members in each contest and section to give an overall total for the club.

All entries have been re-allocated and re-normalised from the original sections and points scores in each qualifying contest. The re-normalisation is against the best scoring station/group in each individual Championship section for each event.

All Single Operator Fixed stations are entered and tabulated into the SF section. Stations qualifying for the LP section are also entered and tabulated into the LP section.

These contests take place over various weekends during the year on bands from 50MHz to 10GHz, so to get anywhere near the top of the tables takes a lot of commitment and the ability to run a highly effective station across the whole VHF/UHF/SHF spectrum. Unlike the short, sharp, weekday contests these events run for up to 24 hours, so patience and perseverance as well as plenty of coffee are usually required.

The winners of this year's AFS Section are Hereford ARS, repeating their wins of the last two years, the team scored the maximum 1000 points in six of this year's events and are again awarded the VHF Championship AFS Trophy. Sheffield & DWS increased their score this year to take second place with the Five Bells Group in third. 95 AFS teams are represented in the results this year.

In the Open Section, Colchester RA return to the top of the table well ahead of the pack and are awarded the Racal Radio Cup, ahead of second placed Hereford ARS with Vecta CG in third.

In the Single Operator Fixed Section, Keith G4ODA once again entered all 11 events and scored the maximum 1000 points in eight of them. He heads the table by a considerable margin and is awarded the John Pilags Memorial Trophy. John G3XDY has moved up one place from last year to take second place with David G4ASR is in third place. The award for the highest placed Intermediate Licensee is won by James, 2E0OUT and the highest placed Foundation Licensee is Pat, M7PAT. Congratulations to both.

Andy, M5TKA is the winner of this year's Low Power Section, jumping up from 12th place last year, when he entered as 2E0XMB, and is awarded the Low Power VHF Championship Trophy. Andy only gained his full licence in December last year, so huge congratulations to him in achieving such success so quickly. In second place this year is Graham, G3YJR with Roger MW0OMB in third place operating from his new QTH in South Wales. The highest placed Intermediate Licensee this year is Peter 2E0NEY and the highest placed Foundation Licensee is Pat M7PAT.

It is with great sadness that the VHFCC learned of the passing of David Dix G8LZE.David was a very active VHF/UHF contester and a valued contributor to the Presidential Contest review of 2015.This year, he was placed fourth in the Low Power Single Operator section of the VHF Championship. Condolences to David's family and friends from the RSGB VHFCC and contesters in general.

Pete Lindsay, G4CLA.
