2^nd 144MHz Backpackers Contest - 14^th June 2026

The 2^nd Backpackers competition saw 37 logs submitted in the two sections 5B, 13 logs, 25H, 12 logs and 12 Check logs. Reading through the soapboxes the WX and conditions were mostly good especially to the south but evidence of QSB which is so often the case at 144MHz causing some lost QSOs. Overall, entrants enjoyed the event.

The adjudication software makes up logs for entries not received and I note that there were 33 of these, as we call them, fabricated logs from /P stations who did not enter, and some were significant indeed. Not entering even with a low QSO count doesn't aid adjudication and makes a contest appear less popular than it actually is. Please do submit your logs even if the day was a disaster for you.

This is the second of the five competitions that make up the Championship so these results also dictate the Championship table.

In section 5B, GW1YBB/P was once again first with an impressive points tally ahead of the second placed GW8OVZ/P who was just 58 points ahead of G0KSY/P to see them into third spot.

In section 25H, G0EAK/P whilst scoring less points than the second placed M0KPW/P had a much better bonus total ensuring they took first place. G4GFI/P took third place on the podium.

Of course championship points do rather level the playing field so no resting on those laurels as huge leads in individual contests do not mean huge leads in championship points.
