70MHz CW CONTEST - 11/5/2025
The number of entries in the 2025 70MHz CW Contest was 25 (thirteen in section AO, nine in section AR and three in section AL). The total was one up on 2024 and the distribution between sections almost identical. A total of 42 valid callsigns appear in the logs, from six DXCC entities (DL, EI, G, GM, GU, GW and PA), 20 big squares and 25 post codes: all the numerics with the exception of number of entrants and post codes were slightly down on 2024. The best DX was between GM4ZUK (IO86) and GU3TUX (IN89) at 802km: the next best DX was at just less than 700km.
The most optimistic assessment of conditions was 'average' with the rest using a variety of descriptions less favourable than that - and several noted problems with deep QSB and high noise level. Activity was reported between 'low' and 'abysmal'. But on the plus side, one entrant reported excellent weather and another commented (in relation to a station whose call is not included here) 'great op - very clear CW'.
Thanks to all the entrants and congratulations to Allan Duncan GM4ZUK who wins the Bill Capstick G3JYP Memorial Awardfor the highest scoring entry. Let's hope for better conditions and activity in 2026!
