RSGB Contest Results Overall UKAC 2024
v4.158 by G4CLA

This year's VHF UK activity Contests attracted entries from 66 General Clubs, 48 Local Clubs and 565 individual entrants. Local clubs are defined as those whose members all live or operate within 80km of the club's (virtual) meeting place and General Clubs whose members are more widely dispersed. If your club fits the Local Club definition then you can apply to be listed as such by emailing afs.query@rsgbcc.org.

The Parallel Lines CG emerged victorious in the Local Club section, repeating their 2023 success. This year, they dominated the competition, winning all six band categories to achieve a maximum score of 6000 points. As a result, they are awarded both the Bolton Wireless Club Trophy (for overall winners) and the G6NB Trophy (for 144MHz band winners). The battle for second place was very close run. Previous winners, Hereford ARS, held the position for most of the year with Chesham & DARS close behind. However, in a thrilling finish, Chesham & DARS surged ahead in the final months to claim second place.

In the General Clubs Section, it was Harwell ARS who initially led the pack, as bad weather hampered the Northern Fells CG group members. However, the Northern Fells CG quickly recovered, surging ahead in all six events to secure another victory. They claimed both the UKAC Club Challenge Trophy as overall winners and the UKAC 144MHz Club Trophy for their performance in the 2m event. Harwell ARS, improving on their 2023 score, took second place.

The Individual Scores table saw some significant shifts this year, with several stations climbing the ranks to reach the top ten. Most notably, Jeff (G8SEI) jumped from 27th place last year, and Anthony (G7LRQ) ascended from 20th. Other entrants making the top ten this year include GM4JTJ, M0GHZ, and G3SQQ.

At the top, it was a repeat of last year's results. Pete (G4CLA) secured the G4DEZ Award as the overall winner, with Keith (G4ODA) taking second place. Darrell (2E0VCC) once again dominated the Intermediate Licensee category, retaining his top spot and claiming the Intermediate Shield. James (2E0OUT) moved up one position from 2023 to become this year's runner-up.

David (M7DQO) repeated his 2023 success as the leading Foundation entrant, earning him the Foundation Shield. Sue (M6XAK) secured second place.

Roger (EI8KN) maintained his position as the highest-placed non-UK entrant, followed by Jeff (F4HRD) in second. Notably, many French stations participated in this year's competition. Oliver M7OTJ was the leading young amateur.

The following are also of worthy mention.

  • Steve G1YBB, who is the highest placed station entering only five bands, with a very creditable 7th place overall.
  • Steve G0EAK, the highest placed entrant having entered all events as a portable station.
  • Highest Placed 2024 Newbies G1KAR/P (#46) and F4HRD (#65).
  • Largest table position improvement M0JWU (371 places) and G7FSD (253 places).
  • Carl G0NZI, who has hasn't missed a single event since 2022.
  • Stewart G0LGS who is now just ahead of GW8ASD in the list of the number of entries  received since 2012, see this link

A big thank you to everyone who participated this year! Even if you only submitted one log, your contribution matters. The more active stations we have, the more enjoyable these contests become for everyone.

I'd also like to express my gratitude to the other RSGB adjudicators: Ian (G0FCT) for 2m, Quin (G3WRR) for 6m and 23cms, and John (G3XDY) for 4m and SHF, for their hard work throughout the year.

Pete, G4CLA
