1st 1.8 MHz Contest 2023

'Not much to write home about' probably best describes the first 1.8 MHz contest of the year. Entries were well down on last year's event at 82 plus one checklog, the number of non-entrants who participated was reduced by 42% and, if it were not for the appearance of 82 Dutch stations in the logs, it would have been a very quiet night for many.

The only highlights were Kevin, VK6LW who found his way into four logs, and one station from North America who was only worked by one entrant.

The winners are listed below, but to give some additional context,

In the absence this year of 12 times winner Clive GM3POI, the way was clear for Dave, M7W (G3TBK) to lift the Somerset Trophy (awarded to the leading UK station in either category) for the second time although Andy, G4PIQ was hot on his heels.

Despite Justin, G4A (G4TSH) commenting that he 'should have gone down the pub', his runner up performance in the Assisted category puts him at the top of the HF Championship at this early stage of the year by the narrowest of margins from Andy, G4PIQ.

All three podium places in the UK Non-assisted category went to members of the HF Contest Committee - a clear case of leading by example.
