1st 1.8 MHz Contest 2025

Two changes were made to the rules for this year's event in response to feedback from previous entrants: a reduction of the contest duration to three hours and the addition of SSB.  In the event, the number of entries was only 76, the lowest for 8 years and well below the average for the last two decades (90).

A further 202 stations appeared in the logs, with once again the concurrent PACC contest providing much needed activity in the form of 93 stations from the Netherlands.  Regrettably, conditions were such that no DX outside of Europe was claimed.

Whilst the number of contacts made using SSB was relatively small, making use of both modes was a winning strategy with the top two places in both UK sections coming from the 'Mixed' category.  The extra QSOs on offer resulted in more comfortable winning margins than has been the case recently, and congratulations go the two Contest Committee chairs (Nick G4FAL and Andy G4PIQ) who took top spots in the Unassisted and Assisted UK categories respectively.  Andy is awarded the Somerset Trophy as the highest scoring UK station.

The standard of logging was high with 40% of UK and 30% of Overseas entrants submitting error free logs.
