Final 80m CC Datamodes Contest 25th July 2024

The 80m Datamodes CC attracted 146 entries submitted for the final round, down a few from last month. This contest series not only attracts entries from outside the UK but is also where people will often make their first foray into the data world. Such is the case this time as we welcome DO3RCX making their first ever data contest entry. Also, from Wales, GW0RAD has entered their first Data contest. We look forward to seeing you both again in the coming months.

Some reported good to excellent conditions whilst others bemoaned of QSB and phase distortion issues for PSK. There were the usual crop of failures which frustrates, on the whole though it was a good event.

So to the individual results. Wins were recorded for:-

M4N (G4IZZ) in the 100W-A Section

G4ENZ in the 10W-A Section

M7W(G3TBK) in the 100W-U Section

G4FNL in the 10W-U section.

Our thanks go to Paul Stott G0HEU for operating G6XX in the test giving away those valuable 5 point QSOs.

With this contest the overall results of the series are revealed, and it is almost a carbon copy of last year. Once again the two club sections were dominated by last year's winners. In the Local Club section, Norfolk retain the G5RV Memorial Trophy beating their nearest rivals, Bristol CG, by over 50% more points. Newbury and District ARS took the third podium spot. It is the same story in the General Club section, Three A's tightened their grip on the Horace Freeman Trophy again by beating their nearest rivals De Montfort University ARS but a 50% margin. Nice to see the Radio Officers Association come home in third place.

The highest scoring individual is also a repeat of last year as David Cree, G3TBK operating as M7W scored 6 more points over last year's result and thus retains theRSGB 80m Challenge Cup.

Congratulations to our trophy winners.

Well done to both winning clubs for turning out their members in great numbers. Who will rise to challenge them next year, only time will tell.

With that being said the series now rests until February 2025, goodness how quickly does time fly. However with the month of August off, it will be time once more to hone your stations as the Autumn Series gets going. Remember this has a 'Le Mans' style start and the SDRs will hear those who rev their engines early and they WILL be penalised.
