Final 80m CC Datamodes Contest 23^rd July 2026

The 80m Datamodes CC season concludes with 129 entries submitted for the final test, nineteen down on last month. Conditions were generally reported as variable once again this month. Further evidence of folk being a little excited and overdriving the audio stages, or forgetting to turn off the compressor. This only loses QSOs not gains them.

So to the results. This test concludes the whole 80m CC event so the winners and runners up of the event are finally revealed, although not really a surprise.

In the Local Clubs section it turned out to be a repeat of last year, Norfolk ARC have dominated the section from the very start. Bristol CG have been consistently in their wake in second place and have achieve an excellent score given the size of Bristol CG when compared to Norfolk ARC. Newbury & DARC were likewise consistently in third place. Norfolk therefore retain the G5RV Memorial Trophy for the fifth consecutive time. Interestingly it was back in 2020 that Newbury last won this trophy.

Turning now to the General Section, the series has once again been dominated from the beginning, but this time by the Three As CG who wrest the Horace Freeman Trophy from last year's winners, De Montfort University ARS who have had to settle for second place this time. Echelsford ARS took third place on the podium.

In the individual results wins were recorded for:-

G3G in the 100W-A Section with PC4H, the leading overseas station

M4N in the 10W-A Section

M7W (G3TBK) in the 100W-U Section with DF8QB, the leading overseas station

G4PIQ in the 10W-U section.

Well done to all stations.

There is but one final accolade to bestow and that is for the RSGB 80m Challenge Trophy for the overall leading individual station. Having entered all 18 contests and scoring well in all, with the occasional win was once again David Cree M7W (G3TBK).

I also have a special mention in dispatches for Andy G4PIQ who has achieved the perfect score of 5000 in the 10W-U section. Well done indeed.

Our thanks to Nick Totterdell G4FAL for putting G6XX on the air for the test giving away 107 valuable 5 point QSOs. Nick expressed surprise that more didn't come looking for those valuable 5 point QSOs.

Our congratulations go to all winners and also our heartfelt thanks to all stations who participated in the event over the past 6 months. It is one of the most popular events in the contest calendar and one that I thoroughly enjoy adjudicating.

We now take a month off until the Autumn Series starts with a three month series across the modes. Note that the event features a Le Mans style start and I WILL be monitoring for infringement of the rule.

Until we RY again on the 24th September enjoy the rest of the summer.
