RSGB Contest Results AFS Contest DATA 2019
v4.158 by G4CLA

The very popular and hard fought 80m & 40m AFS contest series attracts high levels of participation and in the data leg 155 logs were received of which 11 were Non UK&CD stations. Stations were logged across a broad range of European countries and their participation was welcomed by all.

The universal view was that 40m wasn't playing ball with little propagation for many, this is borne out by the QSO numbers shown in the results tables. The burden fell on 80m to carry the load. The narrower band PSK63 mode was favoured by some for the duration, but the best scores came for those who had a balanced QSO mix between RTTY and PSK63. The lack of propagation on 40m though had an impact on rates and the overall numbers of QSOs made.

In the General Club section, De Montfort University ARS `A' team had a strong result with 712 points scored giving them first place. The Three As CG `A' team came home second some 98 points adrift. De Montfort's `B' team came in third place.

In the Local Club section, we find the same three teams on the podium, however the order has changed. Cambs-Hams `A' slip from last year's second place to third place, Norfolk ARC `A' slipped second place and Grimsby ARS `A' leap frogged both to take first place. However the margins between first and third are much narrower than those in the General Club section.

Looking at the individual cores, the NON-UK&CD winner was PA5WT who had a comfortable win over IK5UAN and PA2A. The 400w section saw GM4Z (GM4ZUK) hang on and take first place over MW2I (G4BVY & G4FRE) by just 13 points with G1A (M0NKR) taking third place just 6 points behind second place. The 100w section had the bulk of entrants and unsurprisingly the results are even closer G0MUD (M0KZC & G3KLH) took first place but only by 5 points from second place G3SNU who was hotly pursued by G3PDH just 3 points behind to take third place. In the 10w low power section results were again close. M0RYB/P was first with G6EES with 9 points less took second place. G0TZZ came home third.

This contest series is traditionally closely fought and this is reflected in this year's result. Well done to all who took a podium finish and our thanks to everyone who participated.
