RSGB AFS Data Contest 2023

The first of the year's data contest is the big one, AFS and it did not disappoint with participation levels just a few down on last year at 185 entries. Many of the participants spoke of good propagation but for a few it wasn't so good. Listening to the SDR recordings kindly provided to me by Andy G4PIQ and Ian G0FCT, I was rather impressed with the quietness of the band allowing some easy decodes. I note that entrants also respected the section frequency limits.

As usual one or two stations forgot to switch their mode in their logs from PS to RY or vice versa resulting in a loss of points for them. Otherwise the adjudication process centred as usual on resolving the one sided QSOs and the decode errors they highlight.

Whilst I note many familiar call signs in the entrants it is always gratifying to see new calls giving in particular AFS a go, even more so for their first ever DATA contest. I would like to extend a very warm welcome to Mark - G6WRB to the AFS club and hope you will join us for the 80m CC series that starts up next month.

So without further ado, to the results and congratulations to all the certificate winners listed below. However, I would like to make special mention of Timothy Jones - 2E0TJX for winning the 10W section, very well done indeed.

The next data event is the first of the 80m CC contests on the 15th February, and I look forward to seeing you then.
