RSGB Contest Results AFS Contest CW 2018
v4.158 by G4CLA

For the third year now AFS CW has been a dual band event on 80m and also 40m. Most stations started out on 40m though band conditions again favoured much longer distances and signals inter-G were weak. Signals from Scotland, however, were very strong. Participation has remained steady with 197 logs entered.

This year saw the introduction of General Club and Local Club categories. It is encouraging to see some of the RSGB National Affiliated Societies who have not previously been represented in AFS contests now appearing in the new General Clubs category.

Like last year the scores have not been normalised and the individual results have been divided into three power categories, with certificates for the first three places in each.

First place overall went to Clive GM3POI who will retain the Marconi Trophy for another year. The highest scoring local club was Camb-Hams 'A', who win the Edgware Trophy. On to the individual sections, G4BWP and GM3POI were band leaders on 80m and 40m respectively. The leading 100W station is G4BUO, and leading 10W station G3SWC. Congratulations to all of the above.

Certificates have again been awarded to the leading club stations, both General and Local, with 3 stations, 2 stations and a single station representing them.

Prompted by an observation of very strong signals, an analysis of average SNR as reported via RBN stations was carried out. The analysis shows significant variation in signal strength between stations in the 400W category. The situation will be closely monitored in other contests.

Contest adjudicated byIain M0PCB.
