RSGB Contest Results AFS Contest PHONE 2021
v4.158 by G4CLA

After several years of entry levels between 200 and 250, this year there was a noticeable increase with over 300 received and coupled with good propagation on both bands this resulted in record numbers of QSOs made by the leading stations.  The separate non-UK section introduced in 2019 continues to grow steadily with 17 entries this year.

As expected at this point of the solar cycle, 40m favoured those away from the centres of UK population during daylight hours but with the skip changing on 80m as darkness progressed QSO rates on that band were still high in the last hour.  The popular HA contest provided many additional contacts, mainly on 40m.  Some DX in Asia was worked in the form of 4X, 5B4, JA, TA and YB, plus a solitary VK5, all on 40m.

Fielding a total of thirteen stations, Three As CG have this year dominated the General Club category by taking all three top places.  Their 'A' team is therefore awarded the Flight Refuelling ARS Trophy for the third year in a row, certificates for second and third places go to the 'B' and 'C' teams.

In the Local Club category Camb-Hams 'A' take first place once again but moving into second place  is Bristol CG 'A' followed by Norfolk ARC 'A' in third, up from fifth place in 2020.

No surprise that the leading individual station this year is in the 400W category and from north of the border, hence the Lichfield Trophy for 2021 is awarded to GM2V (GM3WOJ) with a record score of 606.  In second place is last year's winner GM3X (GM3POI) with GM5X (GM4YXI) in third.  The band leader on 80m by a narrow margin is G4PIQ with 409 QSOs, on 40m GM2V is the top scorer with 385 QSOs.

Scoring well on both bands allowed GM4JYB to move up from third place in 2020 to lead the 100W section this time round.  In second place is G4HPE and in joint third place are G3YHV and  G4CZB.

In the 10W section the most profitable band was 80m, however G3SWC with the highest 40m total to add to his 80m score is the leading station followed by G8OO in second place and M0RYB in third.

There was a close finish in the non-UK section, leader PA7WW is just one point ahead of OE5TXF in second place followed by PC2F just two points adrift in third.

Certificates have also been awarded to the highest placed teams of three, two and one in each club category.
