RSGB Contest Results AFS Contest PHONE 2017
v4.158 by G4CLA

For the third year now AFS SSB has been a dual band event on 80m and also 40m. The peak of activity on 40m was early in the contest though even conditions on 80m dropped off rapidly throughout. Participation was up on 2016, with 229 logs received in total.

In all just under 24,000 QSOs were logged with a clear decline in numbers through the whole 4 hours. Some notable DX was worked, notably ZL1SLO and YB0AR.

This year individual results have been divided into three power categories, with certificates for the first three places in each.

Logging was generally of good standard, though there were still some band errors. There are some perfect logs too.

First place overall went to Clive GM3X (GM3POI) who will receive the RSGB Lichfield Trophy. The highest scoring team was Camb-Hams A, they receive the Flight Refuelling ARS Trophy. M4A (M0INN, M0WUT) and GM3POI were band leaders on 80m and 40m respectively. The leading 100W station is G4FNL, and leading 10W station M0RYB. Congratulations to all of the above.

Certificates have been awarded to the leading club stations with 3 stations, 2 stations and a single station representing them.

A very small number of logs were received after the deadline without prior arrangement so unfortunately have only been included as checklogs.

Out by one serial number errors (OB1s) are shown in the UBNs where they have occurred. For this contest, in accordance with the adjudication principles, these QSOs have been allowed. This is because it is not usually possible to determine which end of the QSO is in error. The HFCC recorded the QSOs made on 80m in AFS SSB. We will be analysing each QSO which has an OB1 error in order to establish whether the error occurred at the sending or receiving end of the serial number. After this analysis has been completed this aspect of adjudication may change.
