RSGB Contest Results FT4 Activity Day 2023

FT4 International Activity Day 1 April 2023

The second staging of this event was well received and attracted 192 logs, a 16% increase on last year's number. 70% of the entrants were from 33 DXCCs outside of the UK from 5 Continents.

As always, it was good to receive several first-time FT4 contest entries, and participants were able to enjoy good propagation throughout the 12-hour duration.

And so, to the results

In the UK sections, the 100W single radio section was the most popular and a determined effort by Steve, G1YYB (using his contest call M1B) ensured his victory.  Dave, G3TBK professed to find the event boring but that didn't prevent him taking the runner up spot with Bryn, G3SWC in third place.

The 100 two radio category was very much a 2-horse race in which Gordon, G3PXT triumphed over Joe G0JJG (M8M).  The winning score was well below that achieved by several stations in the single radio category, suggesting that the potential advantages of this section have yet to be exploited.

Finally, in the 10W section Malcolm, GU0UVH firmly put Guernsey on the map by improving on last year's second place to record a victory over Tim, G4ARI and Justin, G4TSH.  Justin proclaimed 'never again' in his soapbox - maybe this result will give him cause to reconsider next year!

The Overseas 100W single radio section received 60% of the total contest entries. Unfortunately for them, last year's winners Steve and Eva, PJ4DX suffered equipment problems that severely restricted their time on the air.  Even so, they managed second place with Belgium stations Anton, ON6NL (winner) and Wim, ON5LW (third place) joining them on the podium.

In the 100W two radio category, the clear winner was Sergey, 5B4AMM who made the most of favourable conditions and no doubt operating skill to record 753 QSOs. Last year's victor Dennis, W1UE had to concentrate on the higher contest bands but even so took the runner up spot with Maik, DJ2QV in third place.

The 10W section saw Huub, PA3EOU once again run out the winner with Omer, 4Z4UO and Adriaan, PE2K in second and third places.
