RSGB Contest Results IOTA Contest 2022
v4.150 by G4CLA

The 2022 RSGB IOTA Contest -  Results:

The RSGB IOTA contest was again very popular in 2022, with 2300 entries, which is a small decrease on 2021. The 2022 Island entries were made up of 26 Multi-op M2, 48 Multi-op M1 logs, and 597 Island Single op entries, consisting of 235 CW, 108 Mixed and 254 SSB. Island entries were made up from Europe 360, Asia 136, Africa 21, North America 36, South America 5, and Oceania 112.

There were 1376 World Single op entries, consisting of 597 CW,334 Mixed mode, and 445 SSB.

There were 95 Island Dxpedition stations in the contest, similar to last year, in North America 4, in South America 1, in Oceania 10, and Asia 13, and Africa 1, and in Europe 65.

This year there was good activity in North America, especially from many stations on the west coast and in the Pacific. Activity was again high in Indonesia from YB YC YD and DU call areas, and BY, BV offshore islands were activated again by mainland clubs.

Band conditions were described as generally average on Saturday, quite good on 20m, but poor on the higher bands. It was much better on Sunday, with 10m opening up in Europe, at least in Europe for short skip.

Dxpeditions and Island travellers:

The heart of the contest is the contribution made by groups and individuals who plan and execute Dxpeditions and Island operations to both well known and rare islands. Even short individual expeditions help the World stations gain credits, enjoy pileups, and the big expeditions vie for the trophies. This year was no exception with UK& CD groups operating as MM1E from Great Cumbrae, GM7V from Benbecula. GM2T from Tiree, G5XV, with a huge HF antenna, as seen by myself, and G4ALE/P with wire antennas also from the Isle of Wight. There was MN5A from Rathlin island, MJ0X/P from Jersey island, and UK visitor MM/DH8BQA from Arran island.

In Europe there were Dxpeditions like 9A6A from Hvar island, IF9A (IT9PPG) from Favignana island,  EJ/ON6QR from Inisheer island, EJ1E from Bere Island, SV8/DL3NC from Corfu isle,

9A/S58MU from Vis island, OJ0DX  from Market Reef island, and 9A5D/P from Sipan. A big group again activated Santa Maria island as II3Y. Also in Europe some notable Fixed island travellers from the UK visited superstation D4Z as a group, also travellers operated as EI9E to Ireland, GM7A to Skye, 3Z5LA/1 on Wolin and many others as single operators. It should be remembered that Dxpeditions have to be to an island accessable only by air or ship, not by bridge.

Further afield there were group operations from Mindanao by DX7EVM, Damen by BG5BWZ, Negros by DX7NRD.VK5KI operated for Kangaroo Island, and big groups activated QiAo by BY7KP, Lingshan by BY4JN. The furthest solo Dxpedition traveller must be by VE3KTB to Ellsmere Island as VY0ERC with a 20m Moxon kit.

In the Newcomers section, for those licensed for less than 3 years TK4TH was the leading newcomer and IT9ISI was second. M0NVK was the leading UK Newcomer.

Unfortunately there were a couple of World stations entering as Multi operator, but with a single transceiver. These had to become check-logs as there is no World multi operator section in the IOTA  contest, unlike many others, and the rules will be further clarified to alert World stations to this.

Continent Winners;

in order to encourage participation outside the EU the single op top scorers per continent receive a special certificate, downloadable by clicking on  the Left column certificate symbol. Thanks to 5B4AIF (5B4AIE), KH7Q (N6TJ), PJ4DX, VY2TT (K3LA), and CT3KN for participating and winning those.

Logs;

Most logs were submitted correctly, but a number entered as Dxpeditions but were incorrect, or stated QRP input power, not output power.

Certificates:

On the far right of the results web page you will see the position certificate. You can download your own certificate by right clicking on it after setting  the filter for your section and category.

Entrants just need to choose the filters on the 5 columns with filters for their own entry, then click on the position certificate. For example ; in the Single Operator table, choose "DXPEDITION" in the location column, then "CW" in the mode column then 'Assisted' in the assistance column, now "12 hours" in the time column and then click the certificate icon on the RHS, The winner is shown and his certificate says "xxxx 1st in the Single Operator Section (DXPEDITION/ASSISTED/CW/12-HOURS) of the IOTA Contest 2022"

The Trophies  are auto listed below, and are also filtered by category.

IOTA-World  have donated some of the trophies, allong with GMDX, CDXC, Jason O'Niell GM7VSB, Boyko Iliev LZ1QN, and Dan Schirmer DL5SE

See you all next year!
