144 MHz AFS Contest 2024

This year's event is best summed up in two words: Storm Darragh. It was little surprise, therefore, that everything was down including antenna heights, activity and entry numbers.  Indeed, at 82 entries, this was the poorest supported 144 MHz AFS contest since 2008.

'Braving the elements' is perhaps an overused phrase but one that certainly applies to this year's 6 portable heroes.

The contribution from DXCCs outside of the UK was again largely confined to France with 15 French callsigns appearing in the logs compared to 53 last year.  In a repeat of 2023, F6DKW provided the best ODX of the competition for the Single Operator Fixed Section winner GD8EXI at a distance of 762 km.

Congratulations to all the winners and a special 'well done' to Parallel Lines Contest Group who won the G3MEH trophy (awarded to the highest placed Affiliated Society) for the first time.

The next event in the AFS competition is the 80-40m CW contest on Saturday 4th January 2025 commencing at 1300 UTC.

With every good wish for Christmas and the New Year.
