May 144Mhz Contest 2012

Once again conditions in this contest were described as “poor”, “flat” and at best “average”, although G8NEY/P did report “reasonable propagation in all directions“. Scores and entries in most sections are up on last year, with a record entry level in the SF section. Many entrants found activity levels poor compared to the fast pace of the UKACs, although analysis of the logs shows that there were nearly 800 stations active over the 24 hours, including stations from 33 UK locator squares.

In the Open Section, Matt G0XDI, who won the SO section last year, was this year joined by the rest of the Black Sheep CG who win the Open section by a good margin from the last year’s winners A1 CG in second place.

After dominating the SF section for the last 4 years Bryn, G4DEZ, was pushed down into second place this year by an excellent score from Jeremie Simon M0KWP.

The SO section was won by Dale Harvey, G3XBY from his portable site on the north Devon coast. In second place operating from the Snowdonia mountains was Brian Jones, M6OXO using only 4w from an FT817.

The 6 hour sections were very well supported again this year. In the open section GM6MD/P operated by members of the Clyde Coast Contest Club top the table, with the Mid-Lanark ARS, M0BUK/P taking second spot. In the single operator fixed section Alwyn Seeds, G8DOH claimed 1st place from Bob Harrison G8HGN.
