Many thanks for check logs received from G3MDG/A and G8REQ
The entry level for the second in this series of contests was maintained, with 28 stations participating. Those who were inclined to climb a hill to get on the air found the weather generally favourable. Activity levels were good, helped by the Practical Wireless Magazine contest run at the same time.
Conditions were quite variable, although most seemed to agree that “average” was probably an appropriate description. Best DX came from M0BAO/P, who worked PA4VHF at 675km. Other made contacts at a similar distance, but continental activity was otherwise rather low.
Andrew Vare, G4XZL, maintained his domination in the 3W Backpackers section, winning for the second time this year from North Wales. Steve Marsh, G4TCU, moved up to take second place just a few points behind. In the Hilltoppers section, GD1MIP and GD6ICR operated GT1IOM/P to take the top spot, with M0SAT, G7LRQ, G8LZE, M0ICR operating G3EFX/P for second place.
This is the second of five sessions of the 144MHz Backpackers Contest, with the best three scores counting towards the Backpacker's Trophy for 2014.
