3^rd 144MHz Backpackers Contest â€' 5^th July 2026

The 3^rd Backpackers competition saw just 20 logs submitted in the two sections 5B, 8 logs, 25H, 11 logs and 1 Check log. This particular contest ran alongside VHF field day so it is not surprising the entries were down. As this championship uses the best three, one can let this one slip. However, it does give others a significant chunk of activity to work. Reading through the soapboxes the WX and conditions were mostly good especially to the south but evidence of QSB which is so often the case at 144MHz causing some lost QSOs. Overall, entrants enjoyed the event.

This is the third of the five competitions that make up the Championship so these results also dictate the Championship table.

In section 5B, GW1YBB/P was once again first with an impressive points tally ahead of the second placed G4XZL/P with G4CZB/P in third spot.

In section 25H, G8BGV/P whilst scoring less points than the second placed M0KPW/P had a much better bonus total ensuring they took first place. G4GFI/P again took third place on the podium.

Of course championship points do rather level the playing field so no resting on those laurels as huge leads in individual contests do not mean huge leads in championship points. As this gives three results we can now see the state of the Championship. This shows GW1YBB/P with three maximum points scores and thus an unassailable position. The fight therefore is going to be for the other podium places. The fight between G4XZL/P, G4CZB/P and M(W)0WML/P is quite close and where the focus will be for the remaining two events.
