70cm UKAC - Review of 2016

The average number of entrants in the 70cm UKAC has jumped this year to 192 per session (172 in 2015). The number of stations active in the  contest (i.e. the number of different call signs in the logs) varied between 285 in January and 329 in September.

Three clubs fought hard to get to the top of the table this year. Once again in overall third place is the Drowned  Rats RG, even though they beat their 2015 score by a large margin. They were in 2nd place for 5 months between February and June, but didn't score as well as the top two teams in the latter half of the year.  In 2nd place this year, repeating last year's success is the Travelling Wave CG. They were in 1st place for much of the year, and only lost out in the last 3 months, to the eventual winners, Ossett ARO. The Ossett club increased their score month on month during the year,  eventually reaching a total of more than double their 2015 tally. An excellent result of which all their members can be justly proud.

Overall there were 79 club entries this year, slightly down on the 2015 figure. Clubs are reminded that there are 2 separate club sections for 2017, one for Local clubs, where their members live or operate within a radius of 35Kms from their club meeting place and one for all other clubs. In fact the club meeting place can be anywhere, but cannot move during the contest year. To enter the Local section next year emailafs.query@rsgbcc.org to let us know. Also include the address (postcode or 6 digit locator) of your chosen 'virtual' meeting place.

The competition for top spot in the AO section this year was primarily between G4CLA, G3XDY and GI6ATZ , all of whom amassed more than 7,000 points.  Pete G4CLA topped the AO table in nine sessions and hence scored an unbeatable 8000 points. John G3XDY with one session win and five second places, gained a total of 7,564 points to come second, with Gordon GI6ATZ in 3rd spot. Gerard F8BRK was the highest placed non UK station with a very impressive score from IN99 and forth place overall.

This year's winner of the AR section is Andy, GM4JR. Andy had four 1st places this year and scored 7,917 points.  Anthony, G7LRQ takes 2nd place with John G0ODQ in 3rd.  Trevor, 2E0LDZ was the highest placed Intermediate Licensee.

In the AL section there was only 27 points separating the top two stations. Andy M0GAV eventually came out on top, winning  five sessions  and scoring 7959 points with Keith G4ODA coming a close 2nd after winning four sessions.  Dave G3TBK was in 3rd place this year. John, 2E0DXK was the highest placed Intermediate Licensee and a very creditable 4th place overall. Tony, M6KTP was the highest placed Foundation Licensee.

Congratulations to all this year's certificate winners and good luck for 2017!
