RSGB Contest Results 432MHz UKAC 2017

This contest continues to enjoy a high level of activity, with an average entry level of 200. The April event attracted 224 entries, a record for a 432MHz UKAC, when 355 different callsigns were logged, which is also a record for this contest series.

For the first time, there are two club tables this year, one for Local Clubs where members all live or operate within 35Kms of the club (virtual) meeting place and one for General Clubs whose members are more widely dispersed.

A total of 32 clubs entered the Local Section. It was the Worksop ARS who had the best start, with the highest score in the January event, but by March Sheffield & DWS had taken the lead which they managed to retain until the end of the year. Hereford ARS had a slower start, starting the year as low as 7th, but by March they had climbed to 4th, reaching their final position of 2nd in the June event.

There were 50 entries in the General Club Section. Last year's winners under their new name of 807 ARO were only just ahead of 2nd place club the Travelling Wave CG at the the start of the year, but they slowly pulled away with some very big monthly scores from their 30 strong team. The GMDX team jumped up one place from last year's 4th to 3rd this year.

Congratulations to all the leading clubs and especially all those clubs who managed to improve their score over last year. Next year the distance rules for the Local Clubs will be increased to 80Kms, which will hopefully allow more clubs to enter this section.

In the Open Section of the individual tables we find the usual suspects from last year at the top of the table. Interestingly they represent an east-west spread across the UK, with Gordon GI6ATZ in the far west, John G3XDY in the far east and Pete G4CLA right in the middle. Although in general Gordon and John made more points per QSO, it was G4CLA who took advantage of his central site to make more QSOs and take top spot.

In the Restricted Section Anthony, G7LRQ moved up from 2nd place last year to top the 2017 table, with Bob G1ZJP (M1MHZ) a very close second and Gordon G8PNN not far behind in 3rd.

The scores at the top of the Local Power Section were even closer, with only 3 points separating the top two places, It was Andy, M0GAV who made the running at the start of the year, but then Steve, G1YBB had 4 top places in a row from August to September which edged him into the lead. Not far behind in 3rd place this year is Mark G6DOD.

Congratulations also go to the certificate winners, which include, in the Open Section, F8BRK, in the Restricted Section, F1FPL and 2E0OUT and in the Low Power Section, 2E0DXK, M6KMB, F1BHL and M6HLR.
