Many thanks for check logs received from GW1YBB/P, M0TMR and M5IC/P
4th Backpackers Contest
The penultimate event in this year's series received a record low number of entries. In the Backpackers section, of the 22 stations that have entered at least once this year only 4 troubled the adjudicator this time although the Hilltoppers fared a little better (6 out of 15). On the plus side, only 5 QSOs were busted.
In contrast to last month's event, the weather was universally miserable (i.e. wet!) but propagation didn't disappoint with some encouragingly high scores in the Hilltoppers category.
This month's results have set up an intriguing prospect for the final event with (nearly) everything to play for at the top of the tables.
In the 5B section, the undisputed overall series winner Steve, GW1YBB/P submitted a checklog, allowing another Steve, G4TCU/P to 'come from nowhere' and seize second place with a narrow win on the day. John, G4CZB/P took the runner up spot. This means that Steve and John together, with Andrew G4XZL/P, all have a shot at securing the runner up spot next month.
In the 25H Section, the eventual outcome is even more unpredictable. On the day, Steve, G0EAK/P chalked up his second win of the series, narrowly resisting a vigorous challenge from Wayne, MW0LKX/P to take the top spot, although Wayne did enough to remain at the top of the table. We are left with three stations Steve, Wayne and non-entrant this time Paul, G8BGV/P all with a good shot at a series win. They have all won at least once so far.
Let's make the final outing one to remember on Sunday 3 September from 1100 - 1500.
