70MHz CW CONTEST 2017

It is pleasing to note that, after a number of years of decline, the number of entries this year was up by 33% over 2016, with 28 entries (three in the Open section and 25 in the Single Fixed section, with one check log).

Congratulations to Allan Duncan GM4ZUK/P, overall winner and leading station in the Open section who wins the Bill Capstick (G3JYP) Memorial Award, and to Fred Handscombe G4BWP, leading station in the Single Fixed section.

There were no reports that conditions were better than average, with most reports saying that they were poor, with no sporadic E. As seems quite common on 4m there were several reports of deep QSB, but there were fewer reports of the band being noisy than usual. Activity was generally reported as a bit slow, although one station thought it was good. And on the plus side, several stations who did not see themselves as proficient CW operators came on for a bit of practice. or to give out some points - for which many thanks!
