    Low Power Contest, 2003.

Usual daytime conditions prevailed for this contest, with 80M noise increasing as the day progressed. 40M was best in the morning but according to some stations the skip was always wrong. I am pleased to hear that everyone understood the rules this year, and I know its slow going but one stations was chasing spiders..This contest requires lots of patience and tenacity to receive the complete contact with all the daytime band noise, it is therefore a good contest to try out those skills and have fun in setting up those portable stations. This year it’s a pleasure to welcome a lot of first time contesters, and also stations from Europe, who also enjoyed the contest. With the advent of the K2 and similar rigs, the contest is becoming popular, although from all the stations that were on, only a small number of logs were received. Once again, most logs would have benefited from a quick glance, and do not rely on the scoring of some logging programs.
Congratulations to Colin GI0RQK who wins the 1930 Committee Cup for Section A, Keith G3RPB using G6KQ/P for Section B and also the overall winner receives the Houston-Fergus Trophy, for the second year running. In the 3W sections congratulation go to Graham G3VIP for winning section C, a regular in these QRP events, and to Frank GM3JKS for winning Section D and the Southgate Trophy. Congratulations to GW4LZP and G3WKS/P (G4FDC) for error free logs, and many thanks to G3PDH, PA0RBO, PA7KAT/P, SP7FBQ/P for check logs.

    Soapbox.

DL0PCK Lots of heave QRN, thanks for the contest.
G0VYR/P Very noisy cndx, not a lot of activity, but very enjoyable.
G2CP/P Perfect wx, hard work in the aft, as contacts became thin. Very enjoyable -great fun.
G3CQR Temp ant in the trees, weather poor moved into the garden shed. /P next year.
G3HKO/P Must put up some wire next year -thanks for the contest.
G3KKQ Conditions better in morning on 40m
G3OOK Difficult band cndx, 80m dropped out quite quickly. 40m skip was only good for an hour.An earlier start would help 80m cndx.
G3VIP Who switched off propagation after break.
G3XYF Could only operate for a couple of hours -good fun and hope to be back next time as /P.
G3YMC Only a few minutes could be spared, will be /P next year.
G3ZRJ Glad to hand out a few points.
G4ARI/P Not much short skip on 40 -very slow going in the aft. Good WX.
G4BLI/P The rules were clearer this year, atrocious cndx, almost had to share a site with RAYNET covering a walk on Dartmoor
G4DDX Conditions very bad, Both bands went dead late morning and into p.m. Eu stations very weak -very enjoyable just the same.
G4FOX/P Rain all around us but managed to find a dry spot -plagued all day by bugs and beetles.
G6KQ/P Slow going during the afternoon - as usual
GM3JKS/P Better condx than last year lot of QRN later. Suggest earlier start to get better 80m propagation. QRM from a SM event.
GU4YBW Managed to work a few stations when time permitted.
GW4LZP 3.5 was almost unusable because of a constant noise level, 7Mhz was patchy with periods of quiet followed by a recovery.
M0BPQ/P 80m was very slow, and I heard no one after the first hour. I like the more sedate pace of the QSO -Hope everyone enjoyed the day.
M5MDX/P Very enjoyable but could have done with more activity.Aft cndx were poor-little progress until the last hour.
ON5WL 80m seemed to be dead ,40m was reasonably active. It’s nice to work with only 9W out - it really works.
OZ7KDJ Very poor cndx here in Denmark.
PA7KAT/P I worked in the garden with accu-power. I enjoyed this contest very much.
