    Low Power Contest, 2005.

Hot weather during low power field day is getting to be a regular occurrence, so much so, there are a few portable stations who are now combining the contest with their club outing/BBQ. If the activity dries up –then ‘have another burger’ is the call.
Typical day time conditions once again, but still some good scores, and the band hopping during openings seems to have gone down well. The break at lunchtime also went down well –although one station operated all through the break only to finish one hour early- PC reboot problems.
There has been a steady increase in the number of logs for this event and since year 2000 the number of logs received has doubled. Good news for QRP.

Congratulations to Colin GI0RQK who wins section A (10W fixed) and wins the 1930 Committee Cup, G3XYC operated G4FOX/P and wins the Section B class (10W /P) and the Houston-Fergus Trophy. In the 3W sections (Section D) Tim G4ARI/P wins the Southgate Trophy and Graham G3VIP wins Section C (3W fixed). A few stations, especially the portable ones are using this event to encourage CW contest operation within their club and while this is a serious event using QRP, its also a good opportunity to ‘get involved’ with contests.

Most log errors could have been prevented by physically checking the log before pressing that magic <enter> key. A common error was the 2W5 sent as a power rating, in a number of logs it came out as 2W missing the 5 off. One of the main areas of concern was with the scoring ,70% of the logs received were scored incorrectly, some were out as much as 50% !!. It would be a help to see the points per QSO in another column, this would enable errors and to be noticed instantly.

I would like to mention that G4ARN/P (op,G3PDH& M0DFF),EI7GY, and DL1LAW had error free logs.

So if you are planning a Club outing next year and you want to encourage new CW operators give Low Power field day an airing.

Thank you to the following stations for check logs.
    G2CP/P,(PC problems) 2E0KOP, G6OKU, EW2EG, LY2LF (QRO), DL2NBY

    Soapbox.

G4FOX/P WX and band condx very good – didn’t seem to be as many portable stations this year – Very enjoyable Sunday.
G4EDG/P Severe QSB at times on 80m. Superb WX all went together OK – No problems. Good format. Typed logs up after the Contest.
GM3JKS/P Three more contacts than last year!! Shorter feeder? Band blanked out 1500 Could do with more participants – promote better.
G4ARI/P Brilliant WX, but very hot in car. Tried NVIS ground wires this year – not sure if they made any difference.

G8IB/P Band Cndx made for a challenging contest, heavy QSB –strange skip into EU. Lots of fun, beautiful day. OP G4FON
