    Ropoco 2 Contest, 2006.

This is one event where it is NOT appropriate to abbreviate numbers (in the Postcode) to ‘T’, ‘N’, etc., yet still it is being done! Where it was apparent that a 9 or 0 received had been sent on as a ‘N’ or a ‘T’ I have not deducted points from the new recipient’s log. Next event I will probably deduct the points from the perpetrator’s log, on the grounds that the Postcode sent on was different from that received. This is not a 100-an-hour contest, after all, and the few seconds extra taken to send the characters in full would not count for that much!
Conditions were generally reported much improved over the last leg. Although some ‘old faithfuls’ were not around this time, there were a number of new faces to make up for that, and a further score or more of keen supporters (who did not submit logs … pity) ensured there were plenty of QSOs to be made.
Congratulations to Mick Puttick, G3LIK, whose error-free log of 62 QSOs wins for him the G3XTJ Memorial Trophy and also, when combined with his score of 530 points from the first leg, the G5MY Trophy for the highest aggregate score in both the 2006 contests.

    Steve Knowles G3UFY

    ‘*’ Error-free log
    ‘+’ G3XTJ Memorial Trophy and G5MY trophy

    Soapbox.

G3RFH Seemed to be rather slow going

G0HIO Shaky start. Not able to hear my own TX in headphones so more confused than usual to start off. Good fun - Thanks to everyone!

G0IBN Very quiet ... even my three regulars (G3GLL, G3YAJ, G3YEC) were all missing - or my aerial needs checking.

    G3JRM Good wake-up for a Sunday morning. Unfortunately I don't think I did, but all-in-all a good contest.

G3IZD Had to leave in mid-contest. Interesting as ever with some even more weird postcodes for the Post Office to decipher.

G0WBC Very enjoyable contest with the usual collection of weird and wonderful postcodes!

G0ADH Heavy QRM at times - including SSB signals.

G3WYW I always enjoy this one as you HAVE to receive the postcode correctly. I noticed that more people were asking for repeats and confirming that they had it right, as accuracy is crucial. Not so busy, though, above 3550.

    GM4OSS Contest needs greater participation.

GW3SB Missed the first 20 minutes of the contest because of a computer crash!

GM4SID The G stations were going down quickly due to propagation when a phone call came through promising a bar lunch at a nice country pub ... NO CONTEST!

G3GMM Once again an enjoyable 1 1/2 hours before going to church with the XYL. We should try the same contest with "Car Registration Plates."

G4WGE First time in RoPoCo - How nice to get CW at a speed I can actually receive at!

GM3POI Just caught the last 23 minutes!

M0NZA Really good contest and thanks for all the contacts.

G4RCD Time limited by family stuff to just about 1 hour. Will try again next time.

M0BUY Using 20W - great contest and a good test of CW logging!

G3JJG Escaped from staying weekend guests for 23 minutes only ... but 23 QSOs!

G4DBW Quite amazing how the postcodes become so corrupted!

M3WCK Could only take part for one hour. My first RoPoCo contest and somewhat daunting. However, all contacts were very accommodating for my limited skills. Will look forward to next year's events.

G4BJM Slow start and end but good fun as always.

G0MTN Once agan out of bed blearily after EUHFC at 01:00. G0ORH and GW3SQX at least should be feeling the same! Kept wpm low, repeated codes where I had ear on second RX virtually the whole time.

G3LIK Always a friendly contest with the usual people participating. A struggle to get the GMs in the log!

G4RCG Started off well, as usual, but died after the first hour. Still say this test should be on an afternoon and not early morning. Worked a few more than normal ... was nice to see an M3 in there as well having a bash!

G4ARI As ever, great fun. Only one really weird postcode: TT1EX14QZ ??

G4CWH I have to say that the time slot is perfect - it allows for least interference with the family and is therefore to be commended. The contest remains testing and amusing.

G4FAL More activity than last year. Conditions seemed good throughout UK. Not convinced by the "error-free log". What proof that a station sends the postcode that they log? 'Error-free-log' is more luck than judgement - let's hope for some luck!

G4EBK Good first half-hour ... very poor last hour!

G3VIP Enjoyed test, bit slow at times. Why was everybody in bottom 25kHz when there was plenty of space above 3545?

G3PDH First time for this contest. A nice change from Serial Numbers, but a bit slow at the end.

G3LHJ Good fun as per usual - Condx good

G3JYP Condx OK. My CW rusty. Highlight: giving the same postcode to G3HEJ as he gave me!

G4XPE Conditions mainly good with reasonable activity. Used a 'bathtub' hand key!
