    Low Power Field Day, 2006.

There couldn’t have been any better weather for a Low Power field day this year, in fact it might have been too hot to be in a tent this year, and surprisingly enough the nice weather didn’t encourage more portables stations. There was a slight increase in the number of QRP fixed stations taking part, and on balance almost the same total number of logs were received this year compared with 2005.

Congratulations to G0CKP for winning the 10W Fixed section and the 1930 Committee Cup, G4FOX/P Op G3XYC for winning the 10W Portable section and the Housten-Fergus trophy , Frank GM3JKS/P for winning the 3W Portable section and the Southgate Trophy, and for the third year running Graham G3VIP wins the 3W Fixed section.

Conditions seemed to be average for the time of the day with some stations reporting good propagation and some reporting very noisy conditions. Better conditions seemed to favour the more Northerly station.

Because there are four sections to this contest, can I ask all those who send in logs to make sure the section entered, is clearly marked in the cabrillo log, and to make sure that all the received data columns are listed – this helps to speed up the adjudicating. – (Thanks RXP)

I would like to thank Graham G3VIP for writing and supplying software to re-score the logs, and converting to Excel all in one go. Thanks.

Many thanks to YL3DX, M0ROA/P and UY1U for their check logs.

A big thank you to all who took part and supported Low Power Field day, see you next year.

    Dave G3RXP

    Soapbox.

M5MDX/P Late start due to generator problems. However a very enjoyable contest where the lunch break was appreciated to allow the operators to cool down! Looking forward to next year.

M3WCK My most enjoyable contest todate-- Laid back and friendly. Thanks for encouragement received--a good contest for novices to learn and improve skills

GM3JKS/P Propagation quite good on 80M and soon worked most active stations after which QSOs dried up and had to QSY to 40M. 40M opened up for UK late morning so worked most active stations before the lunch break leaving very little for the afternoon session.

GM3BSQ/P We are now getting the hang of computer logging WX was Sunny and windy to start but thick fog rolled in from the sea in the afternoon making it cold.

G5BK/P Perfect contest wx, same again next year, please..

G4XRV/P Great to be out /P on such a FB summers day The QSOs seemed to dry up in the last hour.

G4RFR/P Powered by battery; ant 26m Inv V @ 11m high Operated from Cobham S&SC field,

G4OGB Very noisy and slow going.

G4FOX/P Band condx not so good this year but wx fantastic!!

G4DDX conditions pretty bad as expected and hard work. Enjoyable of course.

G4BLI/P Too hot for walkers on Dartmoor so no interruptions! Best QRP event - no need to change anything

G4ARN/P Leisurely contest ideal for beginners Combined event with our annual club day by the seaside with BBQ and perfect wx.

G4ARI/P Hottest LP FD for years - not even a cooling breeze

G3WKS/P Really good contest again - quite a few quiet spots but good fun. Thanks for all the QSOs

G3VYI lots of portables on had to go out for lunch! HRO still pulls them out of the noise !

G3VQO I had intended to operate /P, but guessed (correctly) that conditions would not be good. Still, it was good to work a few from home anyway.

G3VIP Usual skip variation on 40m, hard going in 2nd half

G3LHJ Just on for an hour to give a few points to the guys

G3IZD/P very pleasant contest from a new site. nice to have some obvious newcomers with good signals.

G3GLL Just a dabble to give a few points Didn't seem to be a lot of activity though

G0ADH Hope the field stations enjoyed their day in the sunshine. Very warm in the shack - Helped by several lagers - Hic !!

EI7GY/P I was on top of a mountain with no shelter from the Sun so I had to give up half-way through! Very enjoyable however

DD1IM Condx became so lousy & qrn raised up, that I was forced to give up Tu all ops & rsgb 4 test, vy 73/55
