There was a good turnout this year for SSB Field Day with 47 stations entering. A total of 220 operators took part from the UK, no doubt with many others that helped with putting the stations together, catering, etc.  Weather conditions were reported to be reasonably good this year, which compensates a little for the poor band conditions.

Both sections of the contest were very closely contested at the top.  In the end the winners and runners-up were the same as last year. It was especially close in the Open Section where Cray Valley RS, G3RCV/P, scraped into first place ahead of East Notts CG, G3TBK/P.  This was due to a higher Multiplier total and slightly better log accuracy, as their overall QSO total was lower. In the Restricted Section Bristol CG, G6YB/P, were just ahead of Adrian Rees, MW1LCR/P who ran as a Single-op station.

In addition to the UK logs, a total of 380 logs were available from other IARU Region 1 countries who were participating in their own Field Day events.  This allowed approx 60% of QSOs to be cross-checked.

Operating Club Station at Smithills Hall Museum from at tent in a rather muddy field!

    G0KDV/P
Shame it clashed with ALL ASIA contest.

    G1WKS/P
The first NDF for the club in many years. Great fun had by all on the team. We will be back next year bigger and better.

    G2AS/P
Scores down this year maybe due to the very poor conditions on 15 and 10m.  However it was a most enjoyable weekend especially as we had 19 helpers to set up and 14 to take down! The lack of rain (for a change) was also a help! Gear and 80m inverted V dipoles at 80ft. As usual we tried to let as many people as possible have a go and so sacrificed the scoring rate at times but it was a very
sociable event neverthless. We also ran the 144MHz Trophy Contest in parallel the same location to give everyone something to do!

    G3GWB/P
Problems with generator and tribander meant we kicked off 2 hours late! Thanks to Richard G6TVB Graham M0GCR Ian G1BHR and Keith G7HLP for their valuable assistance over the weekend.

    G3JRM/P
Very enjoyable weekend for all concerned operators and helpers alike. Combined the contesting with our annual club BBQ. There was so much food left over from Sat'day that we extended the BBQ to the sunday lunchtime. HF band conditions seemed poor but the WX was good.

    G3MPD/P
The event was run six 105A/H batteries in parallell which powered the rig, laptop and night time lighting The Radioworks windom 160 was at a hight of 10 meters in an east / west direction. The only problems with SD was how to edit entries so a button to a pop up window with minimal commands would help

    G3RCV/P
Not able to pile on the volume of QSOs this time but at least we we were prepared and had a wireless internet connection so that we could pick up cluster spots. Once again very little separates our score from G3TBK/P. Many thanks to the club members who helped out - 2E0BUU M6MER M0KAZ G8ITB M0KSJ M0CRY G4HSU G4WNF 2E0LOAG G4DFI G4JED

    G3TBK/P
Good stateside runs on 20 & 40. Very slow in small hours after 40m closed. Bobtail gave good results into N America. FT1000MP HL-1K AMP. 400 WATTS. 80M DIPOLE AND 40M DIPOLE @ 70 FEET
    40M DIPOLE @ 33 FEET 40M BOBTAIL TH7 @ 60 FEET

    G3UES/P
If it could go wrong it did. ATU decided it did not want to work. £ ATU's later we were on the air. We did not have the couplers for the poles, so a tree was used. Aeriel only up at about 25 foot. Still I did have fun in the end

    G3ULT/P
Great weather for contesting. Not to cold and no rain. A good turn out from the members helping to set up and take down the stations. See you next year.

    G3WOR/P
Enjoyable Contest but activity seemed a little lower to us. Hard going on 15m & 10m in the Restricted section. We joined forces with a neighbouring club and ended up with 11 Ops!  We used this contest as a base to build up our experience. Thanks to all for the QSOs

    G4BP/P
Conditions were difficult and noisy however our new contesters Intermediate licence holders enjoyed the experience and hopefully will be back next year which was one of the objects of the contest for this club

    G4DPF/P

Wet setting up on Friday - Condx poor to start the contest with long skip. It got much better on Sunday. with 10/15m opening nicely. WX was nice in East Yorkshire on Saturday & Sunday. SD as always performed well.

    G6IPU/P
New site high good take off every thing seemed to go to plan. One or two ops did
not make it due to families, but it's the best we've ever done. See you all next
    year

    G6KRC/P
Inadvertantly worked 7 stations on top band, unable to correct this in the log, sorry. Enjoyable weekend, fine weather, but we could have done with more operators.

    G6OI/P
Do not do the night shift after giving blood the week before

    G6YB/P
This must have been the worst HF conditions of all time.  At least the weather was kind to us.

    G8JYN/P
In memory of Alan Stables G8FMH who passed away a couple of weeks ago a gentleman and a gentle man much admired within the club and a great loss.  Poor conditions at start improved slightly 10M empty. So frustrating that there are so many other stations to work but they only want to work Asia.  Lovely WX good company good fun hard work!

    G8QR/P
A very enjoyable 24 hours, used contest to introduce new operators to contesting. They proved that it is not necessary to be a die hard contester to turn out good results, many thanks to 2E0GOL M6BWA 2E0DRT 2E0YFO M6JZU M0PUD and M0HUG for joining our team. May they stay with us for the CC's next year. Well done to you all.

    GI0AAA/P
It was a one-man part-time effort operating from a hire car on Rathlin Island. 100W from an Icom 706 in the glovebox and a dipole on an 8m pole.

    GM3BSQ/P
The weather as always at this location is a major consideration. This year after a wet setup period was kind to us with virtullay no wind sunshine through the day and moonlit by night.

    GW4TTA/P
Here I sit broken hearted,Did my best but never really got started!!!!

    GW6GW/P
Great time nice to see the club back into contesting

    M0CAM/P
This year we had a better antenna suffice to say that this is an 80ft rotatable monster doublet with homebrew remote balanced tuner. We also refined the 'big-knob/little-knob' operation on the FT2000 so that the spotter could make Q's instead of just passing them to the run op. This makes the spotter's job much more inclusive and interesting. Creates the odd argument about who gets the transmitter though! We had no DXCluster this year (too much effort). We were very happy to have Phil M0DEG as guest op. Hopefully he enjoyed the
experience! We set the tower and antenna up on the Friday but actually this went together really quickly and we needn't have taken 1/2-day holiday. Tear-down took 1 hour 10 mins. That's the fastest ever for us. A bit strange to be mowing the lawn at home by 5pm!
Propagation wasn't brilliant at the start and the going was very slow. Things only really picked up once we started moving LF towards the evening. We were behind the leaders at this point but then started to gain some ground. We're not sure we made up this deficit by the end. We're rather hoping the multiplier score is good! It was a surprise to find 15m open quite early on the Sunday morning and even more of a surprise to find 10m open at 9

    M0HWC/P
Used new Flex3000 for the first time. Steppir beam 40m vertical and 80m folded dipole. Very slow start but the pace picked up after a couple of hours. All operators enjoyed S&P and the excellent filters of the Flex3000. Not our best effort but an enjoyable contest nonetheless.

    M0REG/P
SD saved the day as usual!

    M0UTD/P
very difficult with All Asia Contest but fun

    M0XXT/P
No failures but hard work again. Need more height, more gain and better something, certainly.. possibly operators! :)

    M0ZOO/P
First time from a new spot. Great location but awful weekend. 2 op's went home early due to illness and contest manager broke his arm

    M5ARC/P
Low contest activity by all operators and station problems put us in a very difficult position, didn't go anywhere near as well as it should, anyway was fun to have a play again.

    MM0AOQ/P
The biggest problem this year was actually getting into the site due to heavy rain. Dissapointed that 15 and 20 not as good as last year but a very enjoyable weekend as always  looking forward to next year.

    MW1LCR/P
New improved aerial system this year, seems to have worked OK. Still fell asleep for two hours though !
