    2nd 1.8 MHz Contest 2010

With some of the big names missing from this years event and it was a tussle for the top with G4TSH just pulling ahead of G3LET, & G3BJ in the UK section. EI5DI was clear winner once again in the overseas section. Highest scoring log with no errors was from G4RCG.

Conditions this year were poor with no major DX being worked. The opportunities to work stateside were only being capitalised by the leading stations. As ever this contest allows a moderate station to compete so it was good to see a number of stations participating with compromise antenna systems.

An increase in the total number of entrants since 2009 from 104 to 116 was due to greater overseas participation: 51 UK entrants, 65 overseas.

Thanks to all who took part, next year will see some changes to the 1st and 2nd 1.8Mhz events aimed at increasing diversification and participation.

A nice contest for a short time on top band.

    DK3UZ
RX - Siemens E311b TX - Johnson Viking Ranger - 5W output. Antenna - 80m guywire pyramid fed via open-wire line & remote ATU
Key - Vibroplex "Anniversary" Jablonsky FM32 sideswiper

    DK8NT
    My 3rd RSGB 160 m contest again with FT-857D 100 W and a 6 m high helical vertical. This time I started with the All Austrian 160 m
contest in the early evening and just kept adding new QSOs as the UK stations joined in. A slight hesitation was noticeable in the first
replies when I started with numbers in the 60's right at the beginning of the contest ;-). After almost 2-1/2 hours and too many dupes I decided that staying up any longer wasn't worth a few more contacts. Nevertheless I enjoyed the small event again very much thanks!

    DL1LH
    FT-2000 inv-L antenna

    DL4CF
Many EUs kept calling me although they were in diffrent contests. Good fun anyway! See ya'll next contest again.

    DL5KUD
    Dl5kud - icom-7400 50 watts dipole up 10 m -

    DL6MTA
    Ten-Tec Omni VI 120 L/W

    EA2BVV
Really a challenge for 15m long wire and TS-50. TNX!!

    EI5DI
    SD WinKey K3

    EW8DX
    73!
    Rig(s): ts-950sd; antenna(s): delta loop

    G0IBN
Not bad for a sloper in a small garden

    G3BJ
Activity kept up for the whole contest thanks to a good opening to the US although signals were not very great.

    G3GLL
Not so much activity this year.- thanks for the overseas stations to keep us going.- gave in at 23:50. High local noise level

    G3KLH
Apologies to G3VYI - PC went to sleep

    G3LDI
Still have my noise down to S-7 most of the time as it was only damp

    G3LET
Not a lot of activity so really easy to find a slot. Quite a lot of S/P throughout but many expected country bonuses not heard. Missed EX2A who went to bed shortly after the start. Thanks to all who called or responded.

    G3LHJ
Managed tp get some RF out and work the big stations and give them some points still working on an Ant for Top Band in a POSTAGE STAMP garden

    G3LIK
Some good conditions with lots of Europe. A few stations prefer to jump on a QRG without listening first. Nice to see a lot of familiar callsigns in log

    G3OLB
Definite lack of UK stations but plenty of Eu and a decent run from NA. Not on form tonight due to a chest infection so turned in at 1145.

    G3PDH
Nice contest but its a good job the Eu stations are on otherwise it would be almost over by 10pm! Only a moderate antenna so no strings of USA stns.

    G3RFH
Fierce activity for first 30 minutes and then settled down to a steady pace.

    G3SJJ
With a dry evening the ambient noise level from the 400kV Super Grid lines about a mile away was lower than normal although still about
s5-6 so weaker signals were difficult to copy and some guessing on my part will probably result in a higher points loss than I would have
liked! I hadn't got round to putting any rx antennas out either. The first hour was really buzzing with 92 Qs in the log almost half my
total. N1MM performed extremely well in ESM mode and the K3 handled the high content of very strong signals perfectly. At least 7 UK
7 UK stations were consistently 60dB over s9 and yet no AGC pumping or IMD products discernible at all. I could get very close to the
cleaner signals and still work the weaker stuff. G3BJ's FT5K sounded very clean but some of the other front runners left a lot to be
desired. Pleased to hear a reduction in the numberspeeder-uperers. Only one noted this time. It's one of those modern diseases a bit akin to someone wondering round a supermarket with an empty trolley but having a loud conversation on their cell phone so not really adding any value to the original mission!I had expected more wide spread activity just a week before CQWW CW but was disappointed to see a lot of Eu countries missing - 9A EA (worked EA8) ER GD GI GJ GU I LZ OH SV YL YO YU. My dipole at 57ft just isn't competitive these days good fun though!!

    G3TBK
Seemed to be fewer UK Stations active this year
    FT1000MP = 400W Amp. Inverted-L 70 ft vertical section

    G3UFY
    RIG - FT1000MP + Amp
ANTENNAS - Marconi (TX) + Tuned Loop (RX)

    G3VYI
Good condx and lots of EU. Some W's but hard to copy on my ant ! great to hear G3SVK again! and G3VA!

    G3WGV
Just a few QSOs with some pals

    G3WRR
Worked everything I could hear over next door's plasma TV!

    G3ZGC
I could not go /a this time. Luckily my 160m qrm was a bit down. Sorry for those who had to repeat the qrm still caused some issues.
    But enjoyable anyway.

    G4AFS
Not frenetic but still a challange, timing seems good, still a few new ones in the last half hour.

    G4ARI
QRM levels seemed very high which meant I asked for quite a few repeats.

    G4ASR
Only on for 2.5 hours - antibiotics frazzled my brain!

    G4BJM
PC died during contest so finished logging on paper

    G4EBK
Usual number of Q's again Can't expect much better with 100w and a inv vee bent dipole max height 30Ft.

    G4FNL
Reasonable rate for first hour. It declined after that. It was nice to have the OE contest running for some extra QSOs. There didn't seem to be as many UK stations active. Some noteable absences. No JAs in my log and just 2 x US stations. Guess I need a better antenna... Thanks to everyone for the QSOs.

    G4IIY
Just did the last 100 minutes and decided to run. Inverted L (only 25 feet vertical, as tower was lowered). Wonderfully low noise level (S3 at worst) out here in the sticks. Used a very old version of N1MM which reckoned my score was over 20k. Don't think so!

    G4RCG
Started really well but after the 1st hour slowed right down as normal for this contest did not seem as many OE's on as in the past. I was hounded by a DQRMr for a long while but he gave up in the end. Still enjoyed it.

    G4RYV
I consider myself as a Novice CW Contester. Used Search and Pounce Mode. Homebrew temporary Antenna seemed to work OK.

    G4TSH
Rig K3 plus amp and inverted vee dipole at 80ft. 80m 4sq as RX antenna when needed.

    G6CSY
A very noisy band at times with several 'QRM pse agn'. Strange conditions; worked EI/DL/OE but not heard by G6PZ G3VYI G3TBK G4IIY and M0AAA. A new DXCC would have been RL3A but the QRP didn't stretch that far! Running IC-7400 @ 5W and WinWarbler to an end-loaded poly-wire.

    G6PZ
My first outing in this as I was using this contest to test my new centre loaded vertical in readiness for CQWW CW, but was having so much fun I decided to stay the distance. Next time I will have a dipole for the close in stuff to try and catch what I missed to put in a competitive score. Like Arnie say's "I will be back". 73 Paul

    G7DDN
Interesting conditions and a lot of fun for a few hours on a Saturday night. I just cannot stay awake for the last hour, sorry!

    GM3SEK
Thanks to all for the QSOs. Fun contest with many strong signals but fewer keyclicks than in the past, and less pressure on frequencies than in the 80m CC. This "BBC" (Bent Battle Creek) antenna continues to surprise me with some nice DX as well.

    GM3WOJ
Only QRV first 1 hour testing Inv-L antenna for CQ WW CW. Thanks for QSOs.

    GM4UBJ
My short inverted L and 200w let me work any station that I could hear Never worked any US stations but did managed to work UA9KAA with good sigs both ways. Propagation seemed to favour stations beyond about 300 miles with very few close in stations. Thanks to all.

    GW0ETF
A rare foray onto top band with a hastily erected inverted vee doublet at 40feet. Lost most of the last hour due to some swr complaints but it had slowed right down by then anyway...

    M0CEF
Rig 5 W Ant 22 m wire straight key. Tried to work some new districts.

    M0NQN
45 minute "distraction" at start. Unusual propagation with UK stations-waxing & waning and eventually getting thinner and thinner. Europe solid throughout.

    M0TBK
    FT1000MP INVERTED-V Apex 45 feet

    MM0BQI
Completed the new K3 build just before the contest, magic!
    K3 running 10w to Inverted L on a 12m SpiderPole.
    A good Saturday nights entertainment.
    Thanks for the Qs.

    MM0GPZ
I built a 15m tall inverted L for this test and used it for both TX and RX. I think it TX'd better than it RX'd. Took it back down today
    before the neighbours complained :-)

    OE3CHC

Vy nice. I had lw 84m about 30m up and K3 with 2W only. Working time 1 hour.

    OK1RP
I am dissapointed with results because of my receiving loop did not worked properly. I missed few G's in last hour. K3/100W into Half sloper and receiving MiniDiamond W2PM loop used. Thank You for gentleman party! 73 - Petr, OK1RP

    OK2BME
    TS440ant. LW 30m

    OK3M
45 (88%) of my 51logged stns were made within 92mins(38%) of full contest time.

    PA0FEI
Splendid activity on Top Band!! Therefore big fun to participate.
CW is made by head and hand. Cuagn in 2011.
RIG: TS530S 100 Watts; ANT: longwire

    PA0MIR
Did not want to miss out even as the antenna was not functional and could not repair it in time due to construction work in the community
garden and field. So had to make do with the 80 m dipole screwing off the connector at least gave me a signal out but also lots of
interference. So last years result is a far number off hi. Non UK-contacts to be discarded counted as 0 points anyway already.

Always fun to work the "G" stations in this event. I hope participation from North America was up this year thanks to my pre-event "advertising" here! Some BIG "G" stations on with SMALL receiving antennas sadly! If their xmit ants would match their rcvr ants WOW!!!
