    2nd 1.8 MHz Contest 2011

This year the RSGB 2nd 1.8Mhz Contest saw a tweak in the rules. Principally European stations were able to gain points and multipliers from working non-UK stations, UK districts remain a bonus for all competitors. DX contacts thinner on the ground this year with G3UJE working JR5JAQ at 2156, 10 minutes after sunrise in Japan. Several stateside contacts were made later in the contest. Of UK entrants G4BJM took the top spot followed closely by G3PIQ and G3UJE. Overseas entrants were led once again by EI5DI who retains the top spot since 2007, OK1CZ provided a strong challenge followed by DK2FG.

For the first time all entries were posted directly to the Robot greatly simplifying the adjudication process.

    Hello oms.Only paar QSOs.
    All the best.Richard

    DK2FG
A nice short contest. But not much activity from G-land. Was hearing WD5R and VE3***, but it was too late.
    Equipment:
TS-850 and a quarter wave vertical.
    73 Peter DK2FG

    DK4WF
I declaire that all the contest rules and all the rules and regulations for amateur radio operations in my country have been observed and adhered to. I accept all the decisions of
the Contest Committee. I cfm this.. de Ben DK4WF

    DL5KUD
fine to meet old friends, and to see
the equipment can do it (but not well)
    Its ICOM7400 and DIPOLE UP 10M 2x 27M

    SD, WinKey, K3.

    F9KP
Pleasant qso but not to good condx with a deep qsb
but nice ham spirit on this band with uk stations
all the best for all and 73/88 for rsgb members paul

    G3GLL
    SD worked ok
Not very lively - poor aerial did not help

    G3LDI
Cat Astrophe in the shack this year! Main station transceiver and linear in hospital top band dipole hastily wired up after having it up and down a dozen or so times all associated with the FT-2000. So I used an FT450 in manual mode! Gave up at mi
    dnight.

    G3LET
High absorption as expected apart from a short opening
to the mid-west at their sunset. Without the OE and
REF contests it would all have been pretty dire.
To make matters worse I confused the low band limit
with the 80m events and so never looked below 1820 -
    what did I miss!

    G3LIK
A lot of QSB and heavy QRN throughout which made it
difficult but nice to hear a lot of familiar calls
Pity some of the strong signals from Europe did not
have the receivers to go with it.
Good to have SD for logging

    G3OLB
    K3 + Amp into inverted'L' at 85 ft + Beverage for receiving.

    G3PDH
Only managed 2 hours at the radio. Also seemed a bit slow this time.

    G3RFH
Busy for first hour then tailed off.

    G3TBK
VERY POOR SUPPORT FROM UK THIS YEAR. MANY REGULARS MISSING.
Why change scoring? To provide "opportunity" for those who charge for loggers?!
    FT1000MP + 400W Amp + Inverted-L 70ft vert section
W/VE Stations strong but not many to be found!
Number from F stations was Department not Serial hence logged in "Districts" column.

    G3TJE
    Limited operating time
few years since my last 160 contest not many g's !

    G3UJE
    K3 + Inverted vee at 100'.

    G3VIP
    RIG K3 30W - 80M Dipole strapped feeder - Homebrew logger
Poor antenna worked all could hear had enough after 2 hours.

    G3VYI
Very noisy here with Marconi ant!
More EU stations than G's with this ant !
Activity or skip made last hour very slow
    No DX heard here.
Hope the new rules worked out!!Good idea.

    G3WRR
FTdx5000 to inverted L 50ft top 15ft high at one end 20ft at the other.
Just on to make a few QSOs - was going to make this a check log but if I'm
going that far I might as well enter (and save someone more deserving from
coming bottom!). Very high noise level meant I worked most of what I could
hear - and the rest couldn't hear me....

    G3YHV
SOAPBOX: Conditions seemed poor with a very high noise level

    G4AIU
Usual heavy QRN at this QTH
Not many QSO's - but a very enjoyable contest.

    G4BYG
    Elecraft K3/100AmpInv L at 55ft.

    G4EBK
HAVE PUT REPORTS FROM FRENCH STATIONS AS QTH. NO SERIALS.
First hour went very well then dowhill from then on.
    Rates 55 27 20 5. Gave in at 0020hrs.
Station 100w. 66Ft extensions on my inv vee dipole Ctr at 30Ft.
so most of the wire lost around the garden below 20Ft high.
So all in all 14 countries worked is not too bad a result.
Where were all the UK stations only worked 51.

    G4LMW
Slow at times but still fun

    G4PIQ
Nearly 20 years ago I had the end of a dipole fall down in this contest where the RF arced
through the bailer twine doing a job of insulator and end support for the antenna. 15 mins
before the end this year I had the middle of the antenna fall down where the tree supporting
the antenna had grown into the wires. At least it lasted that long! Packed it in at that point!
I've also been busy fixing amplifiers in a big rush immediately before this contest in the past
and just before the off I was busy replacing duff filter caps in the PA this year so not so much changes.
I thought conditions where not great and activity from the UK seemed poor though 190 is not a bad
    number.
    K3 + PA. 400W. Dipole @ 65ft

    G4RCG
Worked 100 in the 1st hour then it all just dried up, hardly any G's on and very few EU, where was everyone?? I packed in at 23.59 after trawling the band for ages and not hearing anything new, very disapointing the worst 1.8 for me ever

    G4RYV
Heard fewer GMs this time around
Yes am very pleased with SD also worked the Author

    G4TSH
Poor conditions and noisy. Did not seem to be as many UK stations on as usual.
lots of QSB on some made for difficult copy. Decided to pack it in in early.

    G6CSY
Gave away a few points with the QRP.

    G7DDN
Just popped on for a while. Good fun as always. Getting used to a new netbook for logging so a few issues! Apologies for some stray CW!

    G8APB
First time entry worked all i heard for 2 hours then went to bed
why no stations above 1840khz, all crammed into 30 khz but loads of room above?

    GM4UBJ
Worked no stations above 1840 ish so a bit of a squeeze
at times Good operating was noted from all stations
on the band and even non-contest stations were left a
bit of room all in all enjoyable working with ic7400
and inv L SD as usual worked perfectly see you in 2012

    GM4ZUK
Enjoyed contest but last 90 minutes very slow.

    GW0ETF
SWR issues and a lack of new stations here meant a 2330 finish. K3/400w and a
temporary half wave inv V doublet at about 35 feet. UA9 was only dx..

    GW3KDB
Activity was disappointing Dont know how you check letter codes some of the OE stns sent.

    M0KIS
Fun only and it was. tnx to op's who slowed down for me

    M0NQN
After just over two (lacklustre) hours I retired to my bed. Sorry!

Pwr supply tripped a few times, apologies to those puzzled by my sudden disappearences. Also pressed the wrong keys several times to add to the confusion. Still I enjoyed myself, thank you all.

I built a 15m tall inverted L for this test and used it for both TX
and RX. I think it TX'd better than it RX'd. Used as a test for CQWW
    CW following weekend.

    OK1CZ
I started late and finished early. Two more contests
were running concurrently REF and OE but despite that there was hardly
anything to do after 00 GMT. Being sleepy I went QRT 50 min before the end.
The only station heard and not worked was EI2CN who insisted on UK only.
Given the number of participants 3 hours would be enough for the contest.
    RIG TS480 + PA 27m vertical.

As usual very low activity in this contest.
2 hours contest time should be more than enough.

    PA0MIR
Granndaughter birthday again in the way so starting out an hour late and no big score as I had to make do with the 80 m dipole this time

    Hello,
there was not so much time for contest in this year, only 9 qso`s, not so much. Hope next year will have more time to take part in.
