5^th 144MHz Backpackers Contest of 2007

Torrential rain, high winds causing broken masts and collapsed tents, this contest was certainly eventful for some of the entrants. To compensate, some continental DX was available. Most entrants reported reasonable band conditions. The heavy QRM from the QRO stations in the 144MHz Trophy and IARU contest did make life very difficult for some stations. Once the QRO stations had closed down, the weaker continental stations were workable by the Backpackers.

The standard of logging was reasonable with an average of only 9% of points lost. Almost two-thirds of the entrants lost less than 5% of their score - well done! At the other end of the scale, four stations lost in excess of 25% of their score due to inaccurate recording of information.

In the 10W Multi-operator section G0HDV/P was the winner with the Wigan-Douglas Valley ARS, G3BPK/P, in second place.

The 10W Single Operator section was won by Tony Judge, G1ARU/P, with Rhys Thomas, GW4RWR/P, in second place.

In the 3W Multi-operator section, the Oldham Radio Club, G1ORC/P, were the winners (and the only entrant in this section).

The 3W Single Operator section was won by Tim Raven, G4ARI/P, with the Real Backpackers Contest Group (aka Richard Newstead), G3CWI/P, as the runner-up.
