144MHz CW 2007

Entrants this year were rewarded by some great conditions, with most stations making QSOs in excess of 1000km.

Entry level was up 41% on last year. In 2005 and 2006 there was just one 24 hour entrant (Dave Edwards G7RAU), but this year Dave was joined by 6 other stations in the Single Operator Fixed section - some competition for him at last!

Unfortunately UK activity is always pretty low for this contest, but on the plus side there is always plenty of activity across Europe, with the 144MHz Marconi Memorial contest taking place at the same time. This presents the best opportunity of the year to work DX on 2m CW. All entries received for the RSGB contest have been forwarded to the adjudicators of the Marconi Memorial contest.

The battle at the top of the Single Operator Fixed section was incredibly close, where one QSO could have swung it either way. After careful adjudication Dave Edwards G7RAU just came out on top with a near-perfect log, with Jiri Culak M0ITY (operating as M1A) taking second place.

John Lemay G4ZTR regained first place in the 6 hour Single Operator Fixed section after his second place last year. Bryn Llewellyn G4DEZ took second place this year.

The Windmill Contest Group G0FBB regained first place in the 6 Hour Open section after their second place last year, beating the only other entrant in this section, Clive O'Hennessy GM4VVX, into second place.

Alan Horne G0TPW is awarded the certificate for highest placed fixed station using 25W or less into a single antenna.

G0FBB
Nice conditions and good wx. Usual fun event with better DX than previous years.
G0HVQ
Just giving away points and decided to submit a late entry due to the superb condx - all QSOs were DX!
G0MTN
How could I hear DL at 800+ km, (on a colinear in the loft!) but virtually no-one else?
G3HEJ
First real attempt at this contest. Nice 6 hours. Too few stations about, unfortunately, (even with my antenna!)
G3JRM
Home QTH is very poor for VHF hence the single op entry from the club shack with a scratch station. Found it hard going though worked some good DX.
G4DEZ
Only came on to give away points!
G4RYV
High local noise level, but some good conditions compensated. My morse was a bit rusty but enjoyed taking part.
G4XPE
Guess all the G-stations must have been beaming east or south-east as so few heard. Fair conditions but difficult to work the DX from my VHF 'black hole'.
GM4CXM
Very good conditions within a narrow area of F, DL, HB9 and OK. Only on to give some points away.
GM4VVX/P
Nice WX = No wind. North South opening brought best DX worked from this /p locator. Very few UK contestors! Or they were all beaming to continent dx.
M1A
Great condx overall, some FB MS and Tropo Scatter. Some bad signals from PA / ON + veeery low UK Activity. Thanks to Bob and G0KPW team.
