Christmas Cumulatives 2007

2007's Christmas Cumulative contest saw an increase in participation in all areas. 234 logs were received in total for the four days and four bands of the contest. There were 28 entrants in 2007, which is a 27% increase on 2006.

Multiband activity continues to grow. Seven entrants were active on all four bands, compared to just four last year. 17 of the 28 entrants were active on three or more bands. All the top positions in each section have gone to four-band entrants.

Four stations braved the elements to operate from portable locations. The weather seemed to get worse later on the week, with Nick Garbett M1DDD commenting on the last day, "Dangerous weather conditions. Gale force winds, driving rain made operating hard".

Bryn Llewellyn G4DEZ suffered equipment failure this year. His 4m yagi was broken after storm damage, and the FT920 he was using on 6m suffered receive audio failure on the 3rd day.

Some logs were submitted with date errors. One entrant managed a 3-band 4-day entry with every single QSO logged as 2006! No points were lost this time, but entrants should take care to log the correct date as this could result in penalty points being deducted.

Some entrants were lucky to catch a brief sporadic E opening on the first day, where stations in Poland were worked. The best DX went to G8ZRE, who worked SQ9IAU at 1644km.

Band leader in the SF section was Bryn Llewellyn G4DEZ, and Nick Garbett M1DDD(/P) took the honours in the Open section.

4m

4m is always the quietest of the four bands. There were eight entrants this year (including two portables), compared with seven last year. The best DX went to M1DDD/P, who worked G0CHE at 283km on 29th.

Band leader in the SF section was R O'Mahony G4AJC, and Nick Garbett M1DDD(/P) was leader in the Open section.

Activity was good, with 195 QSOs being made across the four days by the leading station. Conditions seem to improve later in the week. The best DX by a good margin went to M5BFL who worked EA2TO/P at 926km on 28th.

Band leaders were G4DEZ in the SF section and Ashley Edwards M0BAO/P in the Open section.

The number of entrants was up 33% on last year. The best DX went to G4DEZ who worked DF2VJ at 643km on the last day.

Band leaders were G4DEZ in the SF section, and Stewart Wilkinson G0LGS/P in the Open section.

Overall Winners

The winner of the Single Operator Fixed section was Bryn Llewellyn G4DEZ for the second year running. The runner-up was G R O'Mahony G4AJC, who moves up from third place last year.

The winner of the Open section was Nick Garbett M1DDD(/P), with Stewart Wilkinson G0LGS/P in second place as he was last year.

• Bob Treacher M3RCV was the highest place Foundation licensee, and also the leading fixed station running 25W or less to a single antenna
