    CHAIRMAN'S CORNER (by Ian G0FCT)

The consultation on the RSGB Contest Committee White Paper has now closed. Overall, 112 responses have been received. Thank you to everyone who sent a response.

The responses to the White Paper will now be analysed. The results of the analysis will be considered at the next Contest Committee meeting and a consensus arrived at based on the views expressed in the responses. The contest rules for 2015 will then be compiled and posted on the Contest Committee website by the date of the RSGB Convention in October (sooner if possible).

Some of the responses contained additional suggestions for potential changes to the RSGB contest rules. Thank you for these suggestions and they will be considered for inclusion in a future White Paper on rule changes.

LOG SUBMISSION PROBLEMS (by Quin G3WRR)

Having just finished adjudication of NFD, I'd like to flag a number of areas in which multiple entrants have made minor errors when submitting their logs. Although these arose in the specific context of NFD they may be worth noting for other contests:
    * where groups had operators who were not members of the RSGB, in a number of instances the required declaration regarding membership of the group in question (NFD rule 5(d)) was not made
    * none of the groups in the Low Power Section made the required declaration (NFD rule 4(d)(i)) regarding off periods
    * the logs of several entrants failed to display the callsign used in the contest - presumably due to failure to change the default callsign in their logging programs
    * and finally one group produced a log which was conformant in all respects - except that it showed the name of the wrong club!

All these points were resolved by e-mail - but if entrants could please try and catch these points before submission, it would help to make the adjudicator's task easier.

    AND FINALLY

A bit of a thin Newsletter this month, probably due to the combination of the holiday season and three Field Days in as many months. Regarding the latter, once this issue has hit the streets, it's time to start organising our own (modest) SSB FD entry. I checked with my son whether the generator in which we have half shares was on top form following its loan to his scout friends (I thought they were supposed to rub sticks together...). He told me it had come back with the carburetter leaking big time. I've suggested that the leak is on his half, but suspect it will be me out with the toolkit shortly - ah well, self training and all that.....

That's all for this month - good contesting!

    73, Quin G3WRR
