Analysis of Scoring Systems for UKAC Contests (by Andy G4PIQ)

Many of you will be remember that the RSGB VHF Contest Committee recently asked you some questions about your use of logging software in the UK Activity Contests. Thank you very much to the 200+ people who took the time to respond to that survey. It was to give us some guidance on where we should focus our efforts while looking at scoring systems for the UKAC contests.

I promised you that we would release the results of our study into scoring systems by the end of September, and I’m pleased to announce that they now are available for download at http://www.rsgbcc.org/hf/information/Scoring-Review-Output-Issue-1.pdf

What we’ve released today is just the study on scoring systems – the full rules consultation for the 2017 series of VHF contests is expected to come next week. That consultation exercise will provide the formal means of providing feedback on the proposals which we’re making in the report, but in the meantime, I’m hoping to see a positive debate on the reflectors and social media.

The study has taken a great deal of work and I’d ask that you take the time to read the report carefully and consider the conclusions. We’ve worked very hard to make this a purely facts based analysis of the situation. I’d particularly like to thank all the volunteers who helped generate this study for their commitment – it is very much appreciated.

For those of you attending the RSGB Convention this year, I will be there on the Sunday and welcome the opportunity to discuss this further with some of you face-to-face.

    73,
